  • ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
  • Compared with standard homes, ENERGY STAR qualified homes use substantially less energy for heating, cooling, and water heating-delivering $200 to $400 in annual savings. Over the average 7 to 8 years you may live in your home, this adds up to thousands of dollars saved on utility bills.
  • An energy efficient home helps ensure consistent temperatures between and across rooms, improved indoor air quality, and greater durability.
  • By choosing a home with the ENERGY STAR label, you can be confident that it will have an increasingly valued feature when the time comes to sell.

  • FGBC is a nonprofit Florida Corporation dedicated to improving the built environment. Our mission is "to provide a statewide Green Building program with environmental and economic benefits."
  • Enhances the profitability of resale
  • Enhances the affordability of operation
  • Enhances the indoor air quality of the home
  • Increases the durability of the home
  • Provides for greater access to mortgage money

Green Construction Highlights:

All of our SeaSide Village homes have been designed to take advantage of the benefits offered by spray foam and blown cellulose insulation. This system greatly outperforms that offered by typical homes insulated with standard glass insulation.

Spray Foam Roof Insulation (standard)

Open cell polyurethane spray foam insulation is applied by spraying it into the roof cavities where it expands and cures, resulting in a continuous insulation envelope without voids. When compared to standard fiberglass insulation, spray foam performs much closer to rated R values and greatly minimizes air infiltration. Applying the insulation in the roof instead of the ceiling allows for an unvented attic.

This results in the following benefits:

  • The HVAC system operates in a conditioned air space and is thus much more efficient. Typical homes' HVAC systems operate in attics that can reach 130 degrees or more.
  • Wind intrusion during a hurrican is greatly reduced, making for a more hurricane-resistant home.

Blown Cellulose Wall Insulation (standard)

Blown cellulose is made entirely of specially treated recycled newspaper making it mildew- and fire-resistant. It is sprayed into the wall cavities so there is complete coverage in the walls with no voids. As with spray foam, when compared to standared fiberglass insulation, blown cellulose performs much closer to rated R values and greatly minimizes air infiltration.

Overall Advantages
The combined performance advantages of a home insulated with spray foam in the roofs and blown cellulose in the walls when compared to standard fiberglass insulation include:

  • Significant improvements in heating and cooling costs
  • Superior sound dampening for a very quiet living environment
  • Improved indoor air quality
  • "Green" building materials

Standing Seam Metal Roof (standard)

  • Reflective metal surface helps keep heat out in the summer and retains heat in the winter, reducing overall heating and cooling costs
  • Low maintenance & long life (last 2 times longer than asphalt shingle roofs)
  • More environmentally friendly than composition asphalt shingle roofs

CertainTeed Fiber Cement Siding (standard)

  • Won't crack, rot, warp, buckle, swell or de-laminate
  • Withstands termites and carpenter ants
  • Wind resistant - withstands winds up to 130MPH
  • Non-combustible
  • 50-year transferable product warranty
  • Resists damage caused by extended exposure to moisture and humidity
  • Can be painted any color and holds paint 3-4X longer than wood
